Evelyn passed away on Valentine's Day 2006 after many years of ill health and suffering. She died aged 51. Whilst she had been ill and in pain for seven years it was a completely unrelated illness that finally overwhelmed her.
Originally from Belfast she had moved to England in the early 70's, First Bradford and then Coventry before moving back to Bradford in 1987.
Working as a waitress and then a room attendant in hotels she worked hard and long eventually gaining the position of Head Housekeeper at a number of hotels. After a break to raise Richard and David she went back to work - and boy did she work. Eventually in 1995 she applied to return to hotels and got the first job she applied for as Head Housekeeper, she was so proud.
Ill health stopped her working in 1999 but she still did as much as she could.
Her proudest moment was when she gained an A* in English GCSE in her mid forties.
A lady of great faith she entered Gods loving embrace with peace and grace.
Leaving behind myself, her two sons, Richard and David, she will also be missed by her four surviving brothers, sister and twin sister.
A beautiful lady who lit up the lives of all she met.
I love her very much and owe her everything. XXX
I am standing on the seashore,
A ship sails and spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
And starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon, and someone at my side says “ she is gone”.
Gone where?
Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spurs, as she was when I saw her,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size, the total loss of sight is in me not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says “She is gone”
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up the glad shout.
“here she comes.”
